Host a Workplace Campaign

Running a United Way Workplace Campaign is one of the best ways local companies can get involved in improving conditions in our community. From support staff to laborers to executives, every contribution matters.

Top 10 Tips for a Best Practice Campaign

1. Form a committee. Recruit team leaders.

Teamwork helps build new ideas and maintain momentum for a positive campaign.

2. Get everyone involved.

Whether a CEO, manager, laborer or support person... make sure you spread the message about your campaign and everyone in the chain gets involved.

3. Develop a campaign timeline and game plan.

Check with your United Way Loaned Executive to help plan a successful and convenient time frame for employees to give.

4. Set a goal and continue to grow each year.

Meet with your committee and review your company's United Way profile to ensure you have a realistic goal. Strive for more than last year — whether in contributions, participation or leadership giving.

5. Hold a kick-off rally.

Organize a fun event that will publicize your campaign and energize your employees to contribute. Host an agency speaker to talk to employees first-hand about the results United Way provides. Have management endorse your campaign by attending.

6. Publicize your campaign.

Utilize all the materials and tools your United Way representative provides. Be sure to hang United Way posters in visible locations, put yard signs out at entryways, pass out flyers and keep employees updated on progress.

7. Host special events or incentives to motivate employees.

These events can be as simple as a bake sale, fun as a dunk tank or as challenging as a corporate golf outting. Following area a few examples of special events and incentives to boost contributions used by companies:

    * 'Dress Down for United Way'–Allow employees to donate $1 toward campaign in exchange for wearing jeans to work.

    * Special dinner party for contributors

    * 50/50 raffles

    * Drawings for paid days off

8. Ask EVERYONE to contribute.

Don't forget to ask all employees to give... salaried staff, hourly and temporary employees should have equal opportunities to give. One of the main reasons people don't give is because they're not asked.

9. Report your results promptly.

Provide interim results to your campaign coordinator, loaned executive and our United Way office as you continue to build your campaign. Keep your employees informed of your progress.

10. HAVE FUN!

Keep your employees motivated and energetic about campaign by keeping it light-hearted. Hosting fun events, offering incentives and making your campaign enjoyable will provide the best results for your company.
