Oceana County campaign at 87% of goal

United Way of the Lakeshore is pleased to announce it has received more than $78,000 in campaign pledges from the residents of Oceana County.

The 2009 campaign so far has raised $78,540, or 87% of the $90,000 goal.

A highlight from this year’s campaign includes outstanding results from Gray and Company in Hart. The generous employees there gave more $25,700 to help the more than 15 programs supported in part by the United Way.

“Gray and Company has always been a leader in the United Way campaigns in the past, but this year in such tough economic times, to have a local company and their employees step up to the plate in such a big way should indicate to the local community how important United Way is in Oceana County,” said Nicole Schwarz, Oceana County coordinator. “Dawn Riley and her campaign committee should be commended for energizing the employees there to give so generously.”

“The campaign is on the right track to meet the goal of $90,000, but we are in need of the residents of Oceana County to donate,” Linda Van Gills, 2009 Oceana County campaign chair said. “Every pledge helps and it is not too late to make a gift to this year’s campaign.

“If you have never given to the United Way campaign now is the time,” VanGills added. “All programs have seen requests increase over the past year.”

United Way of the Lakeshore has supported many programs and services in Oceana County that are the building blocks to a good life - a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family and good health. United Way supports local children’s recreation programs, Hospice, Scouting, the Red Cross, Oceana Home Partnership and 2-1-1, as well as several other safety net programs.
