MATCHING IN MARCH TO CELEBRATE READING!
Local business and community leader, Nichols, is generously matching up to $25,000 in donations made to United Way of the Lakeshore in March, in support of these programs for early learners and our efforts to improve the accessibility, affordability and quality of area child care.
EDUCATION-THE KEY TO INDIVIDUAL AND COMMUNITY SUCCESS
Strong, productive communities are dependent upon a skilled workforce that can compete in a global economy. To build those skills, it is critical to reach children early-even before they start school. Once a young person falls behind it can be very difficult to catch up.
Recent Kids Count data shows that 60% of Muskegon County third graders are not reading proficient. We can change those statistics for our kids and our community. Kids who are lucky enough to have the proper resources and support early on will have the skills needed to succeed.
United Way of the Lakeshore is committed to building an educated workforce, starting with quality early literacy programs, including making Dolly Parton's Imagination Library home delivered books available to all children 0-5 and placing specially trained Reading Corps tutors in area preschools to help all children be reading proficient.
1,000+ children from infancy through their 5th birthday are receiving monthly home delivery of age appropriate books.
Reading Corps tutors raised letter naming proficiency for 170 preschoolers from 10% to 70% proficient.
United Way of the Lakeshore works in partnership with Read Early Read Often to support our littlest learners.
Donations of $50 or more will be entered into our sweepstakes for a 3 year car lease from BettenBaker. (click here for complete rules)
