Join Mission United and United Way of the Lakeshore in a meaningful act of remembrance and care as we gently clean the headstones of local veterans in honor of Memorial Day. This annual tradition is a small gesture with great significance, offering our community the chance to reflect, remember, and give back.
This year, we are honored to return to Egelston Township Cemetery. Volunteers will follow preservation best practices recommended by the Cemetery Conservation Corps and will use D/2 Biological Solution, a non-toxic cleaner that safely removes biological growth while preserving the integrity of the stone.
Volunteer Responsibilities:

Gently clean veteran headstones using soft brushes and D/2 solution

Follow guided techniques that align with national conservation standards

Reflect on the stories and service of our local veterans
No prior experience is necessary. All supplies will be provided, and on-site training will be given at the start of the event. This opportunity is ideal for individuals, families, service groups, and anyone who wishes to honor our veterans in a hands-on, heartfelt way.
