United Way of the Lakeshore Names Lisa Tyler as New President & CEO

Experienced nonprofit leader returns to lead United Way into its next decade of impact!

Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana Counties, MI – United Way of the Lakeshore is proud to announce the appointment of Lisa Tyler as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. A longtime community advocate and nonprofit professional, Tyler brings a deep connection to the region, decades of experience in service and leadership, and a clear vision for strengthening lives across Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana counties.

Tyler’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the organization as it celebrates over 100 years of service to West Michigan.

“I am honored to return to United Way of the Lakeshore,” said Tyler. “This community is my home, and I’m eager to work alongside our staff, board, and partners to listen, lead, and build a brighter future together.”

Tyler’s connection to United Way began more than three decades ago and has shaped her career in community service. She began at United Way in 1990 and later served as Communications Director and Vice President of Community Impact under the leadership of outgoing CEO Christine Robere. In these roles, she helped launch key initiatives like ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), aimed at lifting working families out of poverty.

Most recently, Tyler served as Director of Communications for Senior Resources of West Michigan, where she led advocacy and outreach efforts on behalf of older adults across the region. A former journalist and small business owner, Tyler is known for building strong partnerships, leading with integrity, and centering the voices of the community in her work.

“Lisa’s blend of nonprofit experience, business acumen, and passion for community makes her the ideal leader to guide United Way into its next era,” said Erin Kuhn, Board Chair of United Way of the Lakeshore. “Her love for this region and commitment to impact will help us write the next great chapter of our story.”

As Tyler steps into her new role, the board also expresses heartfelt appreciation to Christine Robere, who is retiring after 22 years of service. Her leadership helped expand United Way’s regional reach and deepened investments in education, health, and financial stability.

“We are grateful for Christine’s remarkable leadership and dedication,” said Brad Hilleary, Search Committee Chair. “She helped strengthen the foundation we now build upon. With Lisa at the helm, we are excited for what comes next.”

“Christine’s strength and vision have shaped this organization,” added Tamica Fox, Personnel Committee Chair. “Now, as we pass the torch, we look forward to Lisa’s leadership and the future she will build.”

Tyler is also deeply engaged in local civic life. She currently serves as Treasurer of the Muskegon Area ISD Board of Education, Vice Chair of the CALL 2-1-1 Board, the Muskegon Rotary Club Board, and is active with the Greater Muskegon Service League, and Kids’ Food Basket.

With Tyler at the helm, United Way of the Lakeshore will continue to unite people and resources to tackle tough problems and create equitable opportunity for all.

“This role feels like a homecoming,” Tyler said. “I’ve spent much of my life listening to this community, learning from its leaders, and lifting up local voices. Now, I get to help lead the charge in shaping what comes next—for our families, our neighborhoods, and our future.”
